This project is a study of development in the
Khlong Toei Port area, the last large parcel of land in inner city Bangkok.
When a significant flow of cargo traffic was diverted to Lamchabang Port, this
area, with its long river frontage, was left vacant, offering Bangkok enormous
potential for first-class development.
The Development Proposal consists of office
buildings, hotel, retail, convention center, park, museum, and a port for
tourism. The ratio of the building floor area to the land area is taken into
consideration to control density and provide open spaces for the public.
Commercial buildings are arrayed as two street
walls to blend with the low-rise shopping street. A Convention Center and mid-size
theater facilitate social, cultural, and business activities.
The multipurpose plaza and the public park
along the riverbank boasts panoramic views and responds to the city’s public
effort to improve quality of life. A mid-size park in the center of the
development provides a level privacy for the residents and visitors. Each residential
apartment offers an open courtyard for recreation with a green belt around the
residential zone.
The sports field in the former port area is to be improved to become a modern sports and recreation center, while the city library close to the river will be the center for information. The plan also includes the Bangkok Sky Park, inspired by boat sails and the river, to commemorate the rejuvenated area with a new landmark.
